Changing your WordPress Theme is a quick and easy way to completely change the look and feel of your site. For almost all of my site I use StudioPress Themes. To find why I love them so click here. For this tutorial we are going to go find a free template using WordPress itself.
Step 1: Log in into your Admin panel.
Example: http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin
Just use the user name and password you choose when installing WordPress.
Step 2: Finding a theme.
There are lots of themes available on the web. Do a Google search and you will find about a million. You have two options you can download them from individual sites and then upload to your server or you can can use the “Add New Theme” function built into WordPress to search and add theme. On the left side of your Dashboard under Appearance click Add New Theme. From there you can Search, Upload, or browser the newest and featured template. If you have found a template that you like from another site you can upload the zip file under the Upload tab.
Step 3: Installing and Activating your theme
For this tutorial I went to the Featured tab and pick on the looked nice. If you want to use the same one search for Carrington under the Search tab. Then click the “Install” button under the picture. Confirm the install and them click Activate.
Congratulations, you did it! It really is that easy. From here customizing your themes can get a little bit more complicated. Some have images that you can change out and if you know a little about CSS the options are endless. We will have more indepth tutorials in the future, but hopefully this will help get you started.
