One of the things I love about WordPress is how fast you can put a site together. With the right hosting company even a beginner can have a site up and running in less than five minutes. To find out more about choosing the right hosting company click here. You will want to make sure your hosting company supports WordPress and that they offer a handy little tool called Fantasico. For this tutorial I will be using SiteGround.com.
Step 1: Hosting, C-Panel and Fantasitco Deluxe
Log in to you hosting companies C-Panel, locate and click on the Fantastico Deluxe Icon.It is usually located in the software and services section.
Step 2: Installing WordPress
Install WordPress by selecting it on the left navigation side bar menu within Fantastico. Select “New Install” and follow the three easy steps that follow. You will be asked to fill in some basic information.
You will need decide where you want to install your new WordPress blog. If you are planning on running your entire site with WordPress (yes this is possible and a great option ) then leave the “Install Directory” empty. If you are adding it to an existing site or want your blog seprate from how you plan to manage and design the rest of your site then put something like “blog” in the “Install Directory.
Next just choose your user name and a password. Make sure to choose a good password. It will be important for security.
Choose your Admin nickname carefully. It is the name that will show up as the author of your posts. For the site name I like to capitalize everything, add in spaces between the words and get rid of the .com in most cases. You can also add is a site description at this point. Keep it short and to the point. Don’t worry everything can be changed later if needed.
Once you have all your information added click the “Install WordPress” button.
In the next two section you will be given lots of important information. Make sure to write it all down in a safe place.
Step 3: Accessing your site and Admin Panel
To access your new blog simply type in your website address in your internet browser.
Example: http://yourdomain.com (if you typed something into the “Install Directory” it will look like thie http://yourdomain.com/blog.
To access your Admin Section, where you will control the look of your new blog and post content, just ad wp-admin to the end of your web address.
Example: http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin (if you typed something into the “Install Directory” it will look like thie http://yourdomain.com/blog/wp-admin.
Congratulation, you did it! You knew blog is now installed are ready to go – now it is time to get busy.
